Borrowing Privileges

Who is eligible to borrow books from SDSU Library?

• SDSU faculty, students and staff
• Extended Studies students (Open University)
• Retired SDSU faculty and staff
• Current members of the SDSU Alumni Association
• Permanent employees of the SDSU Foundation
• Faculty from WASC accredited institutions of higher learning (colleges and universities) in San Diego and Imperial counties
• Holders of currently valid research affiliate cards ($60/yr) Holders of currently valid corporate borrower cards ($150/yr)
• Faculty, student and staff holders of currently valid ID cards from other CSUs or other CSU Alumni Associations (mutual use)
• SDSU students not currently enrolled, but working on incompletes
• SDSU students on official leaves of absence
• SDSU campus clergy
• Individuals who are listed with the Circulation Desk as participants in programs for which SDSU Library privileges have been established in conjunction with Library Administration and Circulation Services.

Members of the SDSU Alumni Association, and members of the alumni associations of other CSUs are eligible for library privileges upon presentation of a current membership card.

• Alumni Association members may borrow up to five items at one time.
• The loan period is 28 days, with two possible renewals.
• View your circulation record online and make renewals online.
• Use of databases and reference materials when visiting the Library in person. Due to contractual agreements with publishers, we cannot provide remote database access to alumni borrowers.
• No Interlibrary Loan or recall services are available.

Community members (normally residents of San Diego or Imperial counties), otherwise unaffiliated with SDSU, can apply for Research Affiliate (guest card) privileges:

• Complete application at Circulation Desk, agreeing to Library policies and fees
• 28 day loan period
• $60 annual fee
• Must present picture ID when borrowing books
• Research affiliates are allowed to borrow up to five books at a time
• No Interlibrary Loan or recall privileges are granted.

Local businesses can apply for corporate borrower cards:

• Application on letterhead listing authorized users and agreeing to accept financial responsibility for all materials borrowed on their cards.
• Payment of $150 annual fee
• Up to five cards issued in corporate entity's name
• Authorized users must present corporate card and picture ID when borrowing books
• Maximum of five books charged to a card at any time
• 28 day loan period
• No Interlibrary Loan or recall privileges are granted.
